The Silence Between Coins

The Silence Between Coins

18×13 cm

Oil on canvas

In this captivating portrayal, the artist masterfully transports us to a world where time seems to stand still. The painting, with its rich chiaroscuro, evokes an atmosphere reminiscent of the Dutch Masters, while the subject’s expressive countenance invites us into a narrative teeming with wisdom and mystery. The delicate interplay of light and shadow accentuates the meticulous detail of the aged figure’s furrowed brow and gentle hands, poised with an air of contemplative grace.
Warm, earthy tones dominate the palette, imbuing the scene with both a rustic charm and a profound depth. Each brushstroke whispers tales of history and human experience, balancing the weight of gold coins with the weight of time itself. Within this frame lies a compelling meditation on life’s transient nature, delivered with both seriousness and a splash of whimsy by the artist's assured hand.

About the author
Andrzej Dąbek is an artist whose creative activities are focused around Judaic culture. Fascinated by the Bible, he draws from its content, transporting himself and us to another dimension. This is what he says about himself:

My visions and fascinations was born from the space of the Living Word. Memory intertwined with imagination, whispering: Go higher and higher, to the source of inspiration. The images of the prophets' expectations, full of comparisons and references, encouraged me to make a vivid commentary. Maybe it will become a path leading to the treasury of understanding God's plan for us?

Andrzej Dąbek was born in 1956 in Kraków, where he still lives and works. He graduated from the Art High School and then studied art education at the WSP under the supervision of, among others, Stanisław Rodziński and Stanisław Batruch. The artist's works are distinguished by thematic uniformity and the simultaneous diversity of techniques used: oil painting, watercolours, pastels, drawings, collages.

Andrzej Dąbek has had numerous exhibitions, including: the Isaac Synagogue in Kraków, the Synagogue in Łęczna, the seat of the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Częstochowa, the Białoprądnicki Manor, and the Museum in Chrzanów. The artist's works are in many private collections in Poland and abroad.
