Embers Beneath the Gaze

40×30 cm

Oil on canvas

In this striking opus, the artist deftly merges bold expressionism with a modern palette, crafting a portrait that is both evocative and resplendent. The subject's gaze, intense and unyielding, is captured with an array of vibrant hues that dance across the canvas, creating a mosaic of emotions. Rich, earthy undertones contrast with bursts of electric blue and fiery orange, imbuing the piece with a dynamic tension.

The play of light and shadow adds depth, inviting the viewer to linger and explore the intricacies of its multifaceted surface. Echoes of post-impressionist influences can be discerned, yet the work pulsates with a distinctly contemporary flair. Here, color becomes both narrative and texture, encapsulating a spirit that is at once both timeless and compellingly immediate.

About the author
My name is Chrispen Chiwenga. I'm from Zimbabwe and have been living in Krakow since 2015. I'm a self-taught artist with a passion for painting and exploring new techniques and subjects. I first started painting after watching an episode of Bob Ross's "The Joy of Painting." Since then, I've been learning and trying new things, and now I can paint practically anything, from landscapes to animal portraits to human portraits. My favorite medium is oil paint because it gives me more freedom and the color intensity is unmatched.
