Rendered in thick, tactile impasto, this winter landscape balances lyricism with the brisk honesty of plein air observation. A snow-laden cottage, its steep roof a ledger of recent weather, anchors the foreground as slender bare trees frame the right flank. Soft pastels and cool blues recede into a misted mountain horizon, establishing depth through subtle aerial perspective and diminishing contrast. The artist’s palette knife articulates light as much as form, juxtaposing warm ochres and rustic browns against glacial whites, suggesting an ember of human life beneath the cold. Part Impressionist in its light, part regional realism in its detail, the scene charms with reserved warmth and quiet wit.
