Solitaire

With its emotive use of color and striking simplicity, Solitaire stands as a contemplative meditation on resilience, solitude, and inner strength. A single flower emerges from a textured earthen pot, its deep maroon petals set against an explosive background of ochre, sienna, and gold. Painted with confident, gestural strokes, the work captures both the fragility and defiance of life amid an uncertain, abstract environment.

The dramatic diagonal flow of light behind the plant evokes a cosmic or spiritual energy, heightening the sense of symbolism in this seemingly modest still life. The intense interplay of dark and light, form and void, suggests that this is more than a botanical study. It is an existential statement rendered through visual poetry.

Signed with initials “L.M.” and dated 1997, the painting hints at post-expressionist influences, drawing parallels to early modernist explorations of inner emotion through organic form. The rough texture and visceral brushwork lend the piece a raw authenticity, making it especially compelling for collectors interested in emotionally charged works with symbolic undercurrents.
