Afterlight Ballet

Rendered with dry, sandy impasto and a muted ochre palette, this work stages an elegant contradiction between corporeal decline and lyrical memory. An elderly woman, bowed and steadying herself on a cane, is painted with quiet realism, while her shadow on a cracked, sunlit wall erupts into a balletic arabesque, a dark silhouette caught mid-leap. The composition plays on chiaroscuro and trompe l'oeil, marrying academic draftsmanship with street-art immediacy, the textured surface lending tactile depth. Subtle humor underpins the melancholy, suggesting resilience and the persistence of grace. One senses echoes of Degas' dancers and tenebrism, reimagined for the urban present.
