Jarosław Tarnowski , 2026

40×50 cm

Oil on canvas

A sunlit urban refuge rendered with brisk, confident strokes, this painting balances architectural dignity with the amiable looseness of plein air painting. Warm terracotta roofs and green-copper spires rise above a dense band of foliage, their forms suggested rather than delineated, while the river in the foreground responds in animated reflections. The palette pairs saturated blues and turquoises with earthy ochres, producing a winning tension between cool water and sunlit masonry. Thick impasto and visible brushwork lend a tactile immediacy, evoking Impressionist air and Post-Impressionist structure. The overall mood is buoyant and urbane, a quiet celebration of light, surface and convivial space.
